![]() Awards 1994 Golden Gecko: Rally Revegetation Services Rally Revegetation Services (now Rally Environmental) was awarded a Golden Gecko for revolutionising rehabilitation seeding and making mine rehabilitation cost effective with it's Nurally Seeder. Managing Director, Ray Gerrard designed the Nurally Seeder in 1992. Environmental experts were immediately impressed that the seeder could be placed on the back of any size dozer. While the Nurally Seeder won Rally Revegetation a Golden Gecko, the company's work contributed to other companies receiving the prestigious award. 2004 Golden Gecko: Newmont's Mt McClure Project Newmont Bronzewing Operations was awarded a Golden Gecko for setting a new benchmark in the closure, planning and decommissioning of mine sites. Newmont agreed to fully decommission and rehabilitate the Mt McClure Gold Mine rather than take a divestment option. The key to the outstanding result was the genuine and dynamic partnerships developed and nutured primarily by the Newmont-McClure management team. The closure planning and rehabilitation at Mt McClure was a showcase for the industry to emulate. 2005 Golden Gecko: Wesfarmers Premier Coal Wesfarmers Premier Coal was honoured for its leadership in sustainable development. The company set a new environmental standard by establishing assests of lasting social, economic and environmental value at its old open cut pits in the Collie region. Wesfarmers demonstrated its commitment to sustainability principles with three inovative rehabilitation programs which included the development of:
Minara Resources was presented a Golden Gecko for outstanding environmental achievement at its Murrin Murrin Nickel cobalt Project. Minara's innovative approach incorporated a new process with quality control measures at all stages of the rehabilitation process. The award-winning project included a joint project between Rally Environmental, Landloch and Murrin Murrin Nickel Operations in development of a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) framework to guide planning, construction, monitoring and eventual relinquishment of minesite landforms; Design and construction of concave waste; dump batters with strategic placement of materials to minimise erosion risk; On-going soil erosion monitoring & modelling; to monitor landform stability through time; Application of improved standards for assessment of ecosystem development and a transparent KPI process that is auditable for bond relinquishment. |
